Today I received an email from an old friend. It was a forward asking for a petition to be signed that would ban all programs from "the air" that reference God in them.

The email, spreading across the InterWeb (as my friend Brig calls it), states that one Madeline Murray O'Hare [sic], an atheist, who successfully managed to eliminate Bible-reading in schools in 1960, is attempting to ban all God-referring programs from "the air."

The email states that "her organization has been granted a federal hearing on the same subject by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
Their petition, Number 2493, would ultimately pave the way to stop the reading of the gospel, our Lord and Savior, on the airwaves of America."

It goes on to say that they have a total of 287,000 signatures backing her petition. It then asks all Christians everywhere to help by signing a petition to block Ms. O'Hare's ban-attempt.

As soon as I read this email alarms went off as I thought to myself that its impossible to rid cable television of privately-funded religous programs so I pulled up my trusty friend Google and did a quick search for o'hare take shows god off air, FCC and came across my answer.

The eRumor is FALSE.

I then found this article on Wikipedia that completely disproves this eRumor... Ms. O'Hair was murdered in 1995!!

So if you get this forward asking for your petition, you can safely delete it and help keep inboxes forward-free!!
